Fit 4 Dance stands for 4 elements that will enable you to get fit to dance and help you to get the best and healthiest body possible, whatever your age, size or current fitness levels.
I would like to show you that everyone can learn to dance – as long as you have fun and enjoy the experience!
Have a look at the description of different classes I teach and decide which specialty suits you. If you are not quite sure which class to attend, please contact me for an informal chat.
Fit 4 Dance Philosophy
1. Cardiovascular training
This type of training works your heart – the most important muscle in your body! You can train your cardiovascular system in a variety of ways.
A dance based fitness class is an ideal form, as this class has an intermittent training system (intervals of high and low intensity), where your heart rate will go up and down throughout your workout which will enable you to keep going for longer.
This will enable you to slowly build up your fitness levels and increase the intensity week by week.
2. Resistance training
An effective way of resistance training is to use your body’s own weight to sculpt and tone your entire body. The additional use of (free) weights, weight machines or toning sticks will encourage your body to keep up and even increase muscle mass and strength, this is very important as it increases bone density and an upright posture, which is an advantage, as you get older will keep you younger for longer.
In a dance based workout, you will experience all over muscle activation, targeting your entire body (your arms and legs) and in particular your core (the whole mid section of your body – all the abdominal and back muscles that keep your posture upright, which holds everything in place).
3. Core & flexibility
A strong muscle is a flexible muscle that can cope with (explosive) movement. If the whole mid section of your body is strong, it holds you in place whilst you are working your arms and legs.
You will find many isolated and intricate core movements in a dance based fitness class, in particular in a ZUMBA ® Fitness party, as your learn to isolate all parts of your body. In particular, your hips and upper body, there is a lot of jiggling, shaking and wiggling going on, an ideal way to help you get that tiny waist that is so desirable.
At the end of the class, there is always a cool-down which statically stretches the muscles for flexibility whilst concentrating on your breathing. It can also prevent cramping or future injury.
Once you get to this part of the class, let go and enjoy, as you have earned it!
After this, you are all done and have completed your very first Zumba Fitness ® experience.
You can complement your training with a Pilates or Core Stability class.
4. Motor skills & coordination
Lastly, but most importantly, motor skills are necessary for every day life, when you move around throughout the day, reach out or bend down to pick something up. The better your motor skills, the younger you will stay for longer. Coordination challenges you to isolate different parts of your body at the same time, this is also a good workout for your brain!
In a dance based exercise class, your coordination will gradually improve as you get to grips, week by week, with independently moving your arms and legs at the same time.
Don’t worry, we will slowly build this up.
